On September 18, 2026, Prof. Lan Yujie, Vice President of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), met with the delegation headed by Dr. Marina Pollán, Director General of Carlos III Health Institute (ISCIII) of Spain. The two sides held in-depth discussions on China-Spain scientific and technological cooperation.

Vice President Lan Yujie extended a warm welcome to the delegation. He noted that NSFC attaches great importance to its cooperation with Spain. As Spain’s national research and funding institution in the field of health, ISCIII has achieved remarkable results in medical research and talent training. NSFC looks forward to partnering with the Institute to support China-Spain cooperation in medical research and contribute to global sustainable development.

Dr. Pollán gave an overview of ISCIII. She expressed her expectation to further strengthen scientific cooperation with China and to carry out exchanges and collaboration with NSFC in areas of mutual interest.

The meeting was attended by representatives from ISCIII; Adrián Gutierrez, Counsellor of the Spanish Embassy in China; Fan Yingjie, Director General of the Bureau of International Cooperation of NSFC, as well as relevant members from the Bureau of International Cooperation and the Department of Health Sciences of NSFC.
