On September 2, 2026, Prof. Dou Xiankang, President of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (hereinafter referred to as NSFC), met with a delegation led by Mr. Matti Shem Tov, Chief Executive Officer of Clarivate.

President Dou Xiankang welcomed Mr. Shem Tov and the delegation. He gave an overview of NSFC and elaborated on latest reforms in the talent‑support mechanism, funding landscape, project review procedures, and international cooperation. He pointed out that NSFC attaches great importance to international cooperation, and would like to strengthen exchanges with Clarivate in areas including the support for young researchers and the development of scientific journals. He stressed that China’s science and technology, particularly basic research, has achieved remarkable progress in recent years, with the output of SCI papers and highly‑cited papers ranking among the world’s top. NSFC will further expand opening‑up and cooperation in basic science to drive its high‑quality development.

Mr. Shem Tov introduced Clarivate and stated that the company values its cooperation with NSFC and stands ready to enhance exchanges in open science, journal development and other areas. The two sides also had in‑depth exchanges on other topics of mutual interest.

Emmanuel Thiveaud, Senior Vice‑President of Academia & Government Research and Analytics, and other representatives from Clarivate; Fan Yingjie, Director General of the Bureau of International Cooperation of NSFC; Tang Longhua, Deputy Director General of the Center for Science Communication and Achievement Transformation of NSFC, together with other members from the Bureau and the Center attended the meeting.
