Vice President Jiang Song Meets with President of Asia-Pacific Center for Theoretical Physics
On December 24, 2025, Jiang Song, Vice President of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), met with a delegation led by Misao Sasaki, President of the Asia-Pacific Center for Theoretical Physics (APCTP).
Jiang extended a warm welcome to Sasaki and his delegation. He spoke highly of the contributions made by APCTP in elevating the level of theoretical physics research in the Asia-Pacific region and introduced NSFC’s recent reform measures in optimizing the funding system for young scientific and technological talents, promoting the development of interdisciplinary fields, and strengthening international cooperation and exchanges. He emphasized that NSFC attaches great importance to cooperation with international scientific organizations and expressed hope to collaborate with APCTP through joint funding of research projects, enhanced exchanges and mutual visits, and co-hosting of international conferences to advance theoretical physics research in the Asia-Pacific region. He expressed hope that by continuously deepening collaborative explorations at the frontiers of theoretical physics, NSFC and APCTP could jointly tackle fundamental scientific challenges, cultivate top-tier research talent with a global perspective, and lay the groundwork for future transformative technologies.
Sasaki expressed gratitude for NSFC’s warm reception and introduced APCTP’s mission, recent developments, and achievements in cultivating research talent. He noted that APCTP places high importance on cooperation with China and has established strong collaborative relationships with multiple Chinese research institutions in the field of theoretical physics. Sasaki expressed hope to collaborate with NSFC in areas such as joint postdoctoral training, promoting scientific personnel exchanges, and organizing high-level academic events.
During the meeting, staff from the Bureau of International Cooperation presented an overview of NSFC and its international cooperation, and staff from the Department of Mathematical and Physical Sciences introduced the funding landscape in the field of theoretical physics.
Dr. Fan Yingjie, Director General of the Bureau of International Cooperation and relevant staff attended the meeting.
