The Second High-level Strategic and Policy Dialogue on Future Collaboration between NSFC and Science Europe Successfully Held
On January 10th, 2022, the Second High-level Strategic and Policy Dialogue between the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) and Science Europe (SE) was successfully held online. Prof. Li Jinghai, President of NSFC, and Prof. Marc Schiltz, President of SE and Secretary General of The National Research Fund of Luxembourg (FNR), attended the workshop and delivered keynote speeches respectively. In his speech, President Li introduced the logic and landscape of the knowledge system and the four sections of NSFC’s funding layout. In the future, NSFC is willing to work with European partner institutions to strengthen collaboration in achieving carbon neutrality goals and the United Nations sustainable development goals, learn from each other, and achieve mutual benefits and win-win results. President Schultz responded positively and introduced the core values, strategic priorities, action framework and 2021-2026 strategic plan of Science Europe in his keynote speech.
During the meeting, speakers gave reports on the results of the two workshops on Interdisciplinary Research and Research Assessment, co-organized by NSFC and SE, the WEAVE initiative participated by twelve of SE’s Member Organizations and NSFC’s Sustainable Development International Cooperation Program. The two sides also discussed the date and topics of the next meeting.
Dr. Schultz and Prof. Zou Liyao, Director General of NSFC’s Bureau of International Cooperation, co-chaired the meeting. Prof. Chen Yongjun, Executive Deputy Director of NSFC’ Department of Interdisciplinary Research, Prof. Yin Wenxuan, Deputy Director General of NSFC’s Bureau of International Cooperation, Prof. Angeles g. Borrego, Vice-President of Science Europe, Vice-President of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), Prof. Angelika Kalt, Vice-President of Science Europe and Director of the Swiss National Science foundation (SNSF), Prof. Matthias Koenig, Vice-President of German Research Foundation (DFG) , Prof. Mari Sundli Tveit, Chief Executive At The Research Council Of Norway (RCN), Prof. Melanie Welham, Executive Chair of UK Research And Innovation (UKRI) and other staff members from SE and NSFC attended the meeting.
Founded in 2011, SE consists of 38 research and funding institutions from 28 European countries. It aims to enhance the impact of scientific research on social economy by integrating the expertise of various scientific institutions. The meeting was a high-level strategic and policy dialogue between NSFC and SE after the election of the new members of SE’s Governing Board.
