NSFC Vice President Shen Yan and Trevor Mundel, President of Global Health, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF), signed the NSFC-BMGF Memorandum of Understanding and related implementation arrangements on Oct. 19, 2015 in Beijing.
Before the signing ceremony, Vice President Shen Yan held talks with the delegation headed by Susan Desmod-Hellmann, CEO of BMGF, and expressed both his welcome to the delegation and congratulations on the 2015 Grand Challenges Annual Meeting held in Beijing. He briefed the BMGF delegation on the funding structure, annual budget, strategic plans and funding achievements of NSFC in recent years, pointing out that, as the biggest developing country in the world, China shares with BMGF great potential of future collaboration; besides, as the first agreement that NSFC has ever concluded with a foreign NGO, the NSFC-BMGF MoU is sure to contribute to global progresses in health and agriculture by launching joint research programs.
Susan Desmod-Hellmann expressed her thanks to Vice President Shen Yan for his attendance at the signing ceremony and highly appreciated the active and efficient communication and exchange between NSFC and BMGF in promoting the establishment of the bilateral partnership. She pointed out that BMGF attaches great importance to its cooperation with China and hopes to address global health and development challenges through future collaboration with NSFC in areas of common interest under the framework of bilateral agreement.
