President Yang Wei Visits South America

At the invitation of the 4th World Conference on Research Integrity (WCRI) and the Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Cientificas Tecnicas (CONICET), NSFC President Yang Wei led a delegation to Brazil and Argentina on May 30 - June 7, 2015.

While in Brazil, Professor Yang Wei attended the 4th WCRI and gave a keynote speech titled Six Changes in the Research System to Reinforce Integrity: Evolving Research Assessment in China. The theme of the 4th WCRI is Research Rewards and Integrity: Improving Systems to Promote Responsible Research. Leaders of funding agencies, academic associations, university presidents, journal editors, policy makers and researchers from over 50 countries and regions attended the conference. The NSFC delegation also visited the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) and the National Institute for Pure and Applied Mathematics (IMPA) during their stay in Brazil, which offered opportunities for delegates to learn about the research progress in relevant fields and had discussions with the local Chinese researchers.

In Argentina, Professor Yang Wei met with CONICET President Dr. Roberto Salvarezza and the two sides reached consensus to promote scientific exchanges and substantial collaboration between the Chinese and Argentine scientific communities. A MoU on scientific cooperation was signed at the end of the meeting, which marks the establishment of official partnership between NSFC and CONICET. The delegation also visited the University of Buenos Aires (UBA) and had discussions with UBA faculty members about the research in relevant fields and the collaboration with China.

Members of the delegation included Chen Yue, Director General, Bureau of Inspection, Supervision and Auditing, Zou liyao, Deputy Director General, and Liu Xiuping, Deputy Division Director, Bureau of International Cooperation.
