President Yang Wei Meets with Dr. Samuel Chao Chung Ting

On October 20, 2014, NSFC President Yang Wei met with Nobel Laureate, Dr. Samuel Chao Chung Ting in Beijing. Dr. Ting gave a brief on the experimental results of the latest Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer (AMS) to the international space station. AMS, an experimental facility which is designed  by Dr. Ting’s team, aims to detect dark matter, reveal and understand the structure and evolution of the universe. Part of this experiment received funding from NSFC. President Yang Wei praised Dr. Ting’s contribution to the development of science, especially his contribution to the talent training for Chinese scholars, and pointed out that NSFC will continuously perfect its funding and management systems to promote the internationalization of the scientific research in China.

Participants to the meeting also included Prof. Meng Qingguo from NSFC’s Department of Mathematical and Physical Sciences, Prof. Zou Liyao, and Ms. Liu Xiuping from NSFC’s Bureau of International Cooperation, Prof. Wu Yueliang from University of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Prof. Wang Qiuliang from the Institute of Electrical Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences.
