NSFC-NSF Workshop on Biodiversity in Beijing

On September 22nd, 2014, the Sino-US bilateral workshop on biodiversity science, which is co-sponsored by NSFC and National Science Foundation (NSF) and organized by the Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences, was held in Beijing.

NSFC and NSC started the collaboration on the dimensions of biodiversity in 2004, and launched a joint founding program in 2009. The year of 2014 marks the tenth anniversary of China-US biodiversity cooperation. Ten-year collaboration has promoted the exchange of scientific and research talents between the two countries, and founded a series of excellent joint research programs with good results.

During the workshop, nine researchers from China and the U.S. delivered reports on respective research progress and bilateral collaboration experience. Mrs. Liu Xiuping, Deputy Director of the Division of American and Australasian Affairs, Bureau of International Cooperation, Prof. Yu Zhenliang, Division Director of the Department of Life Sciences, NSFC and Division Director Penelope Firth of Environmental Biology, NSF, gave their retrospective of reciprocal visits, partnering meetings and project implementation. The participants conducted in-depth exchanges and discussions on the future research plan and training models. The meeting turned out to be a complete success.
