NSFC Vice President Gao Ruiping Visits the Netherlands and Switzerland


From Sept. 8th to 14th, a NSFC delegation led by NSFC Vice President Gao Ruiping visited the Netherlands and Switzerland at the invitation of the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO) and Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF).

In the Netherlands, Vice President Gao Ruiping met with Hans de Groene, Director of NWO and Prof. Coenraad Krijger, Director Policy Development of the organization. Vice President Gao introduced the latest development of NSFC, international cooperation and the preparation of the 13th Five-Year Plan. Then both sides reviewed on the developments and achievements of the bilateral and trilateral cooperation in the past years, exchanged views on positively exploring trilateral cooperative channels and deepening the exchange and cooperation. Vice President Gao also attended the Advanced Materials Workshop and delivered the welcome address, visited the Swammerdam of University of Amsterdam, Faculty of Geo- Information Science and Earth Observation and MESA+ of Twente University, and held discussions with the researchers and Chinese students at these universities.

In Switzerland, Vice President Gao met with Dr. Daniel Höchli, director of the administrative offices of SNSF and Jean-Luc Barras, head of the Division for International Co-operation. Both sides had consensus in conducting substantial research project cooperation and signed the Agreement on Exchange of Program Directors. In addition, the delegation also visited The Paul Scherrer Institute, Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich and Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne and held discussions with the researchers in relevant areas.

Accompanying Vice President Gao were Dr. Du Shengming of the Department of Life Sciences, Prof. Lu Rongkai and Mr. Xu Jin of the Bureau of International Cooperation and Ms. Pengjie of the Bureau of Finance, NSFC.
