Multilateral Workshop on Frontiers in International Critical Zone Science Held in Beijing

From May 21st to 24th, 2014, the Multilateral Workshop on the Frontiers in International Critical Zone Science co-sponsored by National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), National Environmental Research Council (NERC), National Science Foundation (NSF), German Research Foundation (DFG) and National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) was held in Beijing.

70 experts in relevant fields from China, U.K, U.S.A., Germany and France gathered in Beijing and held heated discussion on research progress and key issues about international critical zone observatory (CZO), which laid a solid foundation for further strengthening international exchange and cooperation in this area.

During the meeting and after negotiation, the funding agencies made the report based on the consensus document about promoting international exchange and substantial cooperation in CZO. All sides agreed to promote the establishment of networks of international cooperation and exchange through funding symposiums and workshops and simultaneously using for reference the international funding mechanism for multilateral cooperation among China, U.K., U.S.A., Germany and France.

Prof. Liu Congqiang, Vice President of NSFC and other staff member including Prof. Lu Rongkai, Mrs. Fan Yingjie and Mrs. Liu Xiuping from the Bureau of International Cooperation, Prof. Fu Bojie, Prof. Leng Shuying, Prof. Yao Yupeng and Prof. Liu Yu from the Department of Earth Sciences attended the meeting.
