President Yang Meets with CNPq President

President Yang met with Dr. Glaucius Oliva, President of the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development of Brazil (CNPq) on May 26th, 2014. President Yang welcomed Dr. Oliva’s visit to NSFC and briefed on the current situation and latest development of international cooperation at NSFC.

Dr. Oliva expressed his acknowledgement and introduced the status quo, funding instruments, and international programs of CNPq. It was agreed by both sides that, as developing countries, China and Brazil should spare no efforts in furthering win-win bilateral cooperation and exchanges in the field of basic research, with a view to achieving common progress.

During the meeting, President Yang and Dr. Oliva signed the NSFC-CNPq Cooperation Agreement and Working Plan on behalf of NSFC and CNPq respectively. President Yang emphasized that the NSFC-CNPq Cooperation Agreement was the first bilateral agreement NSFC ever signed with South America, and it would surely promote the cooperation and exchanges between Chinese and Brazilian scientists.

Views were also exchanged on such topics as joint funding areas, review mechanism, joint funding for bilateral workshops etc.

Prof. Zou Liyao, Deputy Director General and others from NSFC Bureau of International Cooperation, attended the meeting and signing ceremony for the NSFC-CNPq Cooperation Agreement.
