From December 1 to 5, 2015, Vice President Liu Congqiang visited Scotland at the invitation of the Royal Society of Edinburgh (RSE) to attend the Second High-level Forum on New Paradigms for Future Collaboration in Science and Innovation.
The forum was jointly organized by NSFC, RSE and CAS (Chinese Academy of Sciences). Vice President Liu chaired the forum and delivered a speech. He introduced China’s basic research and NSFC’s funding and development strategies. More than 20 representatives from China and Scotland attended the Forum. During the event, the participants visited the three Scottish innovation centers respectively in “stratified medicine”, “sensors and imaging” and “industrial biotechnology” and had in-depth discussions on research, innovation and technology translation in the three fields. The forum has provided an effective platform for the cooperation in science and innovation between the two sides.
During the visit, Vice President Liu met with Prof. James Conroy, Vice Principal of the University of Glasgow. He also visited the School of Engineering and the School of Geographical and Earth Sciences of the university. Vice President Liu was accompanied by Fan Yingjie from the Bureau of International Cooperation.
