Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars
NSFC establishes the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young
Scholars to intensify the training of young scientists and researchers,
and to encourage and attract Chinese scholars working abroad to work
in China. The Fund aims at creating a relatively free environment
for young scientists so that they could undertake basic and applied
basic research of natural sciences in China and grow up into academic
front-runners of world science as soon as possible. The Fund sets
higher demands on applications, paying special attention to the researchers'
existing achievements and creative capability. Applicants must be
under the age of 45.

Research Fund for Overseas Chinese Young Scholars
The Fund is set up specially to encourage overseas outstanding young
scholars to do basic research and applied basic research in natural
science for a certain period of time annually in China. The age limit
for applicants is the same as that for the Fund for Distinguished
Young Scholars.

Research Fund for Hong Kong and Macao Young Scholars
NSFC sets up the Fund to encourage Hong Kong and Macao outstanding
young scholars to do basic research and applied basic research in
natural science for a certain period of time annually in the mainland
of China.
¡ñ¡¡National
Science Fund for Fostering Talents in Basic Research
The Fund targets at basic research in universities and the building
of bases for the fostering of teachers, including teachers' training,
textbook compilation and teaching reforms. As is clarified in the
Fund, it is aimed at basic, instead of applied research disciplines,
at teaching instead of scientific research, and at fostering of undergraduates
instead of graduates. In addition, the Fund will provide appropriate
support to special disciplines and professional fostering of basic
science for mega-science projects.
¡ñ¡¡Fund
for Innovative Research Groups
To steadily support research in the frontier areas of basic science
and to foster researchers and research groups with creative capability,
NSFC sets up the Fund for Innovative
Research Groups. The Fund aims at research groups with outstanding
Chinese scientists as their academic pacemakers and backbones who
conduct basic research or applied basic research domestically centering
on an important research orientation. The creative research groups
selected should be research entities naturally formed through long-term
cooperation, which have enjoyed certain advantages in academic quality
among domestic competitors, have achieved significant results in research
or have been active in the frontier areas of basic research and have
possessed notable creative potentials.
