Results of the 5th GM China Science and Technology Achievement Award were announced on December 7, 2005. Profs. Zhu Zuoyan and Wang Jie, NSFC vice presidents, attended the awarding ceremony and issued awards to the awardees.
Co-established by General Motors and NSFC and donated by GM, the Award is to encourage middle and young aged Chinese scientists and technicians of excellence in the fields related to automobile to carry out basic and applied research and strengthen communication and collaboration between GM and Chinese S&T researchers, and promote the S&T development for Chinese automobile industry.
According to the management regulation of the Fund to the Award, awardees shall go through the following procedures: recommendation by their host institutions, confirmation of qualification, separate evaluation by NSFC and GM, open defense by candidates and panel assessment. One first class prize and 6 second class prizes were identified in automobile related materials and equipment and parts, manufacturing technology, new energy, computer technology and engineering, electronic systems, automation, emission control and automobile mechanics. Certificates and bonuses of 10,000 and 3,000 dollars were awarded to awardees of first and second class prizes, respectively.
