On Dec. 14, 2005, Prof. Shen Wenqing, NSFC Vice President, met with Prof. Henry Hutchinson, Chief Scientist of the Council for the Central Laboratory of the Research Councils (CCLRC), UK, and other participants to the China-UK Workshop on Laser Science.

During the meeting, Prof. Shen gave an introduction about NSFC and its cooperation with UK partners. He also recalled with pleasure of his visit to CCLRC last April, which left him a good impression. Prof. Shen and Prof. Hutchinson both expressed their wishes of strengthening bilateral exchanges and exploring further the possibilities of bilateral cooperation in the future. Present at the meeting were Prof. Zhang Jie, CAS Member and Director General of the Bureau of Basic Sciences, CAS, and Prof. Ji Peiwen, Deputy Director General of the Department of Mathematical and Physical Sciences, NSFC.
