Solvothermal
Preparation of Non-oxide Nanomaterials
Since
September 1995, sponsored by several programs
of NSFC and the national "973" Program,
CAS Member Qian Yitai and his research group in
the University of Science and Technology of China
have made important achievements in the solvothermal
synthesis of non-oxides nanomaterials, 95 papers
(260 citations) have been published at the international
journals including Science, J. Am. Chem. Soc.
and Adv. Mater. A series of important nanomaterials
such as GaN nanometer ultrafine powder, diamond
powder, carbon nanotubes, CdS nanorods and nanoparticles,
SiC nanowires, have been synthesized by the solvothermal
method.
The work of diamond was
appraised as one of the top ten S&T news of
the Ministry of Education in 1998, and won the
prize of NSFC Excellent Papers in 1998. The work
of CdS nanorods was one of 47 papers from China
which were appraised as Citation Classic Prize
for 1981-1998 by ISI. The work on solvothermal
synthesis of nanomaterials won a first prize of
CAS Nature Science Award, and a second class prize
of the National Nature Science Award. Dr. Xie
Yi and Dr. Li Yadong won the Prize of National
Top 100 Excellent Doctor Thesis and CAS President
Special Prize. Both of them were sponsored by
the Fund of Distinguish Young Scholars and were
employed as Chang Jiang Scholars by the USTC and
Tsinghua University, respectively. Prof. Qian
Yitai has been invited to act as the member of
the advisory board of the international journal
J.Solid State Chem., and has written one
chapter in the Handbook of Nanostructured Materials
and Nanotechnology at invitation.

The study on nanowire of CdE published
in Chem. Mater. was one of the 47 papers
from China chosen by ISI for the Citation Classic
Award from the period 1981-1998.
